A Moment of Honour | Harrow Hengqin Speech Day 2026

2 July marked the final day of the academic year. Speech Day is one of the most important events at Harrow Hengqin. It celebrates the successes of our pupils and marks the beginning of a new journey for our first graduating class. Take a look back at some of the memorable moments filled with courage, perseverance and fellowship.

“Here, Sir”

The day begins with the tradition of Bill, where every pupil processes past Head Master Luke Bartlett and answers ‘Here, Sir’ in response to their name being called.

Celebrating Achievement

Throughout the year, our pupils have excelled in many ways, and every achievement deserves recognition. Awards were presented for academic excellence, sport, the arts, scholarships and contributions to House life.

Speeches to Remember

Continuing Harrow tradition, Head Master, pupil representatives and a parent representative shared inspiring messages.

Luke Bartlett —— Head Master

“It is a time of endings, of goodbyes, of thanks, and celebration. Congratulations to our prize winners and scholarship winners-we have very talented students, and to those who didn’t win this year-keep trying. Resilience and perseverance are two of the most important qualities of all- they will help you more than talent, more than intelligence, more of patches of hard work.”

Delta G4 — Lower School Pupil Representative

“At Harrow, we are encouraged to be brave, curious and kind. During Challenge Week in Yangshuo, I wanted to give up climbing in the rain. But when I reached the top, I realised I was stronger than I thought.”

Emily  G11 — Upper School Pupil Representative

“I used to think self-discipline meant filling every minute of my day. This year I learned it means staying committed, even when no one is watching. As one of the founding pupils, Harrow has become my home.”

Gloria G12 — G12 Graduate Representative

“The challenges we have faced have become our greatest strengths. You do not need to have all the answers. Focus on the journey, and keep stepping forward with confidence.”

Alina’s mother — Parent Representative

“My greatest pride is not the university offer my daughter received, but the person she has become—kind, responsible and full of hope. That is the greatest gift Harrow has given her.”

Celebrating Our First Graduating Class

This year’s Speech Day was especially meaningful as we celebrated Harrow Hengqin’s first graduating class. Head of Sixth Form, Ms Clare Blain, performed the tassel-turning ceremony, while Head Master Luke Bartlett presented graduation certificates. Our Harrow Little Lions pupils also presented flowers to the graduates. Once a Harrovian, always a Harrovian. We wish you every success in the future, and we hope you’ll come back to visit.

Music on Stage

Speech Day also showcased the talents of our pupils. The Lower School Choir performed Be the Light, Grade 5 pupils sang You’ve Got a Friend in Me, and our Little Lions delighted everyone with A Beautiful Day. At Harrow Hengqin, pupils had their moment to shine.

House Cup Champions

The much-anticipated House Cup was awarded to Anderson House. As pupils came together to lift the trophy, the auditorium erupted in celebration. This achievement belongs to every member of the House.

As the 2025–26 academic year comes to a close, we thank our staff for their dedication and our parents for their continued support.Have a restful and joyful summer holiday, and we look forward to seeing you back in the new academic year.
