Up to 100% Tuition Fee Reduction | Harrow Hengqin Academic & Talent Scholarships Officially Launched
The Scholarship Programme at Harrow Hengqin is a key feature of our upper school. It not only fosters students’ personal growth and development but also provides them with a platform to showcase their talents, enabling them to make a lasting contribution to the school community. Additionally, the programme is designed to lay a solid foundation for students’ entry into the world’s top universities and their future careers. Being selected as a scholar is a great honour, awarded to only 15 exceptional individuals, and successful applicants will have the opportunity to receive up to a 100% reduction in tuition fees, depending on performance, potential and need.
The scholarships awarded are for academic achievement and potential, shown by a strong track record and excellent performance in tests and interviews.
Other talents and achievements can be taken into account, particularly in the areas of:
Music – talent and accomplishment in performing on at least two musical instruments (voice can be one of them)
Art – talent and accomplishment in a variety of artistic techniques
Drama – talent and accomplishment a variety of acting techniques
Computing & Technology – computer programming, understanding of AI, entrepreneurial ability, mathematical ability
Sport – competitive performance in at least two sports
Through the scholarship programme, we encourage students to shine in academic achievement and benefit from a world-class holistic education. We aim to nurture their passion, skills, and determination, empowering them to bring about positive change to their surroundings and the wider world.
1. Eligibility Criteria
Open to external students worldwide who apply for a place in Grade 9, Grade 10 or Grade 11 starting in September 2025
*Students who are currently studying or who have studied at Harrow Hengqin are eligible to apply for a separate range of internal scholarship awards made each year.
2. Scholarship Amount & Tenure
Scholars will receive 10-100% tuition (and boarding if chosen) waivers for the 2025-2026 (and subsequent) academic years and future years as detailed here (excluding IGCSE and A-Level examination fees, meal fees and extra charges incurred for activities, trips, etc.).
- For Grade 9 entry, a scholarship is a two-year award, renewable for two more years in the Sixth Form after a reassessment.
- For Grade 10 entry, a scholarship is a one-year award, renewable for two more years in the Sixth Form after a reassessment.
- For Grade 11 entry, a scholarship is a two-year award in the Sixth Form.
3. Selection Criteria
Harrow Hengqin will assess applicants through the following means:
- School Transcripts: applicants must submit their school transcripts from the past two years, showing performance and progress in all subjects.
- Zhongkao/IGCSE/Other External Examination Results: applicants must provide the results of all exams taken in the previous two years to application
For external students with projected or achieved outstanding results in the Zhongkao, a scholarship of up to 100% of tuition fees is available.
For (I)GCSE results: If the candidate is on course for A*s in 5 or more subjects at (I)GCSE, he/she is eligible to apply for an award of at least 60% discount of annual tuition.
- CAT4 & GSE Test Results: Applicants must provide their results from any CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test) and GSE (Global Scale English) tests or equivalents. These two tests could be completed in the admissions assessment process.
- Standardised English Proficiency Test or Specialisation Certificates: Applicants may submit scores from standardised English proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS, or show special achievements and certificates in fields such as music, arts, literature, sports, or STEM.
- Harrow Hengqin IGCSE/A-Level Subject Written Exams: applicants are required to perform well in subject written exams organised by Harrow Hengqin.
- Interview: We will conduct interviews to gain deeper insight into the applicant’s personality, interests, and potential, ensuring alignment with Harrow Hengqin’s culture and values.
4. Timeline
- Application Deadline: Candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible due to highly competitive and limited places on offer. The deadline for applications is 22 June 2025.
- School Assessments: Rolling exams until 28 June 2025
5. Subject Choices & Academic Support
- Grade 9 scholars would study over two years for six to nine IGCSEs according to subject choice and aptitude, alongside a full co-curricular programme and an academic extension programme
- Grade 10 scholars would probably take a small number of IGCSEs depending on experience, with intensive English language support (if needed) plus preparatory courses in some subjects to be studied at A-Level alongside a full co-curricular programme and an academic extension programme
- Grade 11 scholars would embark upon four or five A-Level courses alongside a full co-curricular programme and specialised preparation for top global universities
- Full IGCSE & A-Level subject choices can be found on IGCSE Curriculum Guide and A-Level Options Booklet. The range of subjects on offer is likely to increase further in future years.
In addition to a tailored selection of IGCSE and A-Level subjects for gifted students, each scholar will be paired with a highly qualified teacher as a mentor. Through personalised one-on-one tutoring and a comprehensive leadership development programme, the mentor will support the scholar in developing their intellect and talents in areas of interest. Our focus is on preparation for admission to, and success at, top global universities.
